the pemulwuy series, by ron hurley, 2001.
Pemulwuy (c.1750–1802) was a Bidjigal man of the Darug nation who was a leader of the guerrilla resistance to the British occuptation of Australia until he was shot and killed. the story goes that his last words were “Tyerabarrbowaryaou”, or “I shall never become a white man”. in this series, he’s being reconstructed from a midden — i.e. from the trash but also archive — by his totem, the black crow.
